Smart about medicine

So today, my teacher told us to pick a story to read about and I chose to pick the article “Smart about medicine” because I like learning about medicines and all that stuff. So anyways what I learned from that article that I’ve never known was that to always finish your antibiotics. Whenever I get prescribed a medicine, I would take some until I felt better, but you aren’t supposed to do that. It said that even if you feel healthier again you still have to finish it because you never know if the bacteria has left your body yet.

I also learned that most of the medicines we get prescribed from doctors all have a common ingredient what is called diphenhydramine and that treats coughs. But if you were to take too much of it, it can cause you to stop breathing which now has me a little freaked out because when I feel horrible, I take 2 pills at the same time which I know I’m not supposed to do and it could contain that ingredient and I’ll end up not breathing. Another thing this article taught me is that to never share your medicines with other people. You never know if it has something in it that is bad for your health. The only medicine you should be taking is the one prescribed by your doctor, not by your friends.

The last thing I want to say that I learned is that to always make sure to get prescribed medicine from your doctor.

All songs have different meanings to it and have a point that they try to get across. Some can be life changing, some can be appropriate/inappropriate, and some can be religious, etc. People don’t just make music because they want to become famous, it’s because they want to express what they are feeling. In today’s blog, I am going to talk about my favorite verse in my favorite song and why it’s my favorite.

There is this song called “Love Yours” by a rapper/singer named J Cole. J cole’s music is just something else for me. In his music, he speaks the truth and says meaningful words. Did you know that one of his songs stopped a man from committing suicide? Ya, I know shocking! There was this man who was going to kill himself, but after listening to one of J Cole’s songs, he realized that he’s life is worth living for and thanked J Cole for that.

So in his song, there is a verse that says “Beauty in the Struggle, ugliness in the success.” That is my favorite verse because it’s true. There may be beauty in the hardships, but ugliness in achievements. Not that it’s beautiful to go through hard times & it’s ugly to fulfill dreams, but that once you get to a successful point you may see more evil in your environment in comparison to when you were working hard to get to where you wanted to be.

The meaning behind the whole song is that he thought success was all he needed.  He thought it would bring him happiness, being able to buy his mom a house, the fame the honor of people saying that he was the best in the music industry, he thought those things would bring happiness, but when he got those, the happiness never came.

Abbey Neves

So today, we had a speaker come to our school, her name was Abbey Neves. Abby Neves is a sixteen-year-old student who attends Walkerville high school and came today to talk about bullying. She talked about how she got bullied in grade 8. She explained how hard it was for her and how she used to carry an imaginary backpack full of bricks and each time she felt hurt a brick would be added on.

In the presentation, she used good examples that I could relate to with my generation, like the Queen Bees and wannabes book. Nowadays a lot of people want to be their friends instead of being themselves. Everyone tries so hard just to fit it in and I just laugh at it. Why try to be like everyone else when all you have to do is be yourself. I was glad that she came to our school because that was really inspiring and brave of her to tell us her story.

 

 

Muskoka Woods: Activity #1 high ropes

We had just arrived at Muskoka Woods and the weather there was kind of bad, but only on the first day. It was cold and raining, but that didn’t stop us from doing our activities. The first activity we did after we had lunch was high ropes. High ropes are where you have to climb up logs with steps on it, but your classmates were holding a rope to support you. Also, you were wearing a harness and helmet to protect you.

I climbed up with Camille and to be honest, it was scary and fun at the same time. Climbing up was the easiest but trying to sit on the teeter totter that was at the top was hard because you think that you are going to fall down. I made it to the top and sat there with Camille but we were screaming at each other because we looked down and saw how high we were up and started freaking out. Going down was another situation we were freaking out about because the lady said to sit on the edge and fall off, and i didn’t trust my class pulling the ropes, but hey, I made it out alive!

High ropes is a really fun activity and I suggest who ever is reading this, when they go to Muskoka, to do high ropes and be the first one to try it.

Muskoka woods trip

Tuesday, May 2nd, was the day all the grade 8’s went to Muskoka woods. The schools that joined us there and got to share and amazing experience with us was CCMS (Cardinal carter middle school), ACSM ( Assumption college middle school), Holy name, St. Williams, OLMC ( Our Lady Of Mount Carmel), and St. John De Brebeuf. I think I have to say that going to Muskoka was the best thing that ever happened in my life. Before even going to Muskoka, I was a quiet person and would never really talk to people sometimes even when I;m with my friends, but going there made me become a whole new strong, confident person. Like I’m telling you, going there changes you. It’s all about leadership and getting out of your comfort zone. That’s why everyone was split up from their school for eating time because they want you to interact with others and make new friends. That’s what I think the whole trip was about, to interact and meet new friends other than experiencing new things and a little advice I should give you if you were to go there is to bring a notebook and pen, also make new friends because that was something I didn’t do and I regret not making friend son the first day and getting t know them better than the last day where everyone decided to just talk to each other. Oh and also another advice would have to be do ALL the activities and when I mean ALL, I mean ALL. Always be the first one to try it and never back out. If you don’t you’re going to wish you did. The activity I liked the most would have to be zip lining, big swing, karaoke, and the skateboarding/scooters place. It was AMAZING. I’m after I went on the zip line I felt like I could conquer the world and try everything. That’s how fun it was for me and if I had the chance to zip line ever again.

“I’ve never met a strong person with an easy past” is a quote I usually don’t hear which is good because every time my teacher gives us a quote and tells us to blog about it, the first thing that pops up in my head is ‘ what does this quote mean?’ and all quotes having some meaning to it and I’m pretty sure there is no right or wrong answer to the meaning. 

What I think this quote means is that people don’t meet others that are strong, powerful and a successful person who has an easy past. What I mean is that there isn’t a famous person in the world who had an easy past. Like for example J Cole ( an artist) is a strong person but his past wasn’t easy. He didn’t just sing and on the street and the next day ended up on everyone’s tv screen. No. He had to fight to get were he was and man it wasn’t easy since his dad has left him and they had moved a lot, also that he got turned down by one of the music companies and a music producer he really admires. So his life wasn’t easy.

So in conclusion, this quote means no matter how successful you are, when you look back on life you’ll see the difference from the past and todays life and know that it wasn’t easy getting where you are today!!

( this blogpost is bad so don’t read it I understood it, I just didn’t know how to write it all in one blogpost so skip this and go read he others!!!!!)

“What you do or don’t do when people are watching that matters most”

This is the first time ever hearing this quote and when I did, I had a lot of things come up in my head. What people don’t do that matter the most is when they don’t act like a leader, instead they act like a follower and lead a bad example to the younger ones. Just because your friends do something doesn’t mean you have to be just like them. Everyone knows who you really are so what’s the point if doing that. What I think this quote means is that it is all about your first impressions with people. What I mean by that is when you are to meet a person but your friends are acting a different way and your not sure if you should act just like them or be yourself, so you end up acting your friends and give the wrong impression to that person which makes them think differently about you than what others actually think about you. So you are not doing what you are supposed to do when people are watching that matters most to them, which I think when meeting someone new the first thing they want to know is your personality.

What people should do that matters most when people are watching is being the best person they can be because the way your facial and body expression are, they can tell a lot about a person. So say if your around teachers, police officers, adults, e.c.t, try to be the confident, courageous, generous person you can ever be.

 

Keystone XL pipeline

What is the Keystone Pipeline?

The keystone pipeline is a 36 inch crude oil pipeline that starts in Hardisty, Alberta all the way to South of Steele, Nebraska.

Why is it so Controversial?

It is so controversial because in Alberta, the tar sands considered to have the dirtiest oil on the planet. Different from normal crude that gushes from a well, the tar sand has to be duged up and melted with steaming hot water before it can be refined. So this means more fossil fuels are going to be burned as part of the process, which means there is going to be climate change.

What impacts might it have on the environment?

The impacts it might have on the environment is that it can cause climate change. It also is going to contaminate the fresh water and it is going to burn the natural gas.

What opinion do you have about this pipeline?

My opinion on this pipeline is that I think it is bad for our environment. Why I think this is because the pipeline has leaked 12 times over the past year and 21,000 gallons of oil spilled which isn’t good.

What opinion did Barack Obama have?

Barack Obama rejected TransCanada’s application to build the keystone pipeline because it wouldn’t create much jobs. He said that the pipeline wouldn’t have made a serious impact on jobs and the economy. But, the most controversial reason why he rejected keystone was because it would not have undercut America’s efforts to lead on the climate change.

What does Prime Minister Trudeau feel about the pipeline?

Justin Trudeau felt disappointed at first when former President Obama declined  to build the keystone pipeline but now since Obama is no longer president and Donald Trump is, he agreed that the pipeline should be built and Trudeau is strongly happy with his decision.
